But... but... where's the community site and user forum for trading, sharing, and rating stickies based on cleverness, utility, and economy of prose?

    ....

Fine, I'll just get back to work then, Jack.

    You suck.

    1) ability to save frequently used sites (html link).
    2) ability to save so the content doesn't disappear after a cookie cleaning dance.

In a world full of on-line contacts and friends, social bookmarks, tags, shared stuff, ranks, tags, feeds, apps, widgets, etc, etc, simplicity is really relaxing and comforting... Thanks for this project :)

    PS.: I love stickys :)
  • nares · 1 year ago
cool - it's different than using stickies since it has more immediacy and is really top of mind - like quick reminders. The stickies I use on my mac right now are, like you said, either overlooked overtime, or the stickies in my widgets are used more for taking notes.

I like Tess' idea of leaving sweet-nothings to a loved one using the same computer, cute! :)
  • Tess · 1 year ago
    great idea Jack.
have to try it (am on task now)
have set it for small jobs monday that you helped me create with the timelabeling post inspiration : )

BTW also great as a note to loved one using same PC : ) lots of kisses I'm sure! (or, more to the point: tell Tess you're about to disappear into the WWW!)

    Hi Jack!
    It´s lovely idea!

it would be possible to be with white background?
    Greets!
  • Daniel Schildt · 1 year ago
It's possible if you save page to your computer customize CSS from the beginning of file.

Nice implementation - I made something similar "Little Yellow Stickies" that you might like to check out (it's old & nasty code that needs rewritten though); it has support for multiple notes, drag & drop, integrated textile formatting and an accessibility view.

Hi Jack. I'd love to expand this idea. How would you think if I made a very likely app/site which contained the same feature as yours, but was expanded to more post-its and made them freeflowing? I would only work on such a project if you'd okay it, and I would of cause credit you for the idea.
  • Jack Cheng · 1 year ago
    Go for it!
  • James · 1 year ago
Jack - Been reading your blog for a bit. Weird negativity from people for a free product you just did for the hell of it. I think it's great even if I'm probably not going to use it - that's not really the point. I admire your GTTFD attitude, your way of seeing solutions to small problems, your design style, and much else. Cheers.
  • andreas · 1 year ago
Basically a cool idea. I would just prefer i. e. to create an own account and to have several sticky notes because one is most of the time not enough - i. e. if you use several mantras...

What would a new-born do? That's what I ask myself. And scream right out!!!
  • Thomas · 1 year ago
    Brilliant. Thanks. :)
  • Dustin Hoffman · 1 year ago
I've always had a tough time using sites like this. If it takes me too long to make the sticky notes, or to-do's it ends up bogging down my workflow, instead of enhancing it. I'm also usually doing too many different things at once to need reminders to do them.
I do get the application if you're trying to remind yourself to do something in the morning. But then I have to change my home page? I don't know, it seems incredibly niche.
Great idea, but I'll opt for more robust task managers.
  • Jack Cheng · 1 year ago
    To each his own :)
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
I sort of see the point, but I imagine it'll become invisible over time, just like the real thing.

I always feel sorry for whoever works on the Apple "stickies" application, putting in loads of useful functionality and customisation only to see people using the iMac's "chin" to stick real notes to.
  • alex · 1 year ago
    well done.
    super simple.
  • vanderleun · 1 year ago
Neat concept and nicely executed. I appreciate it.
  • Juan Pablo Pincheira · 1 year ago
Thanks Jack. I'm having troubles to get it to work while I open a new tab window, Safari won't open the stickyscreen site. I don't use Firefox, so my question is does it work to you when opening a new tab on Safari?

    Greets!
  • Jack Cheng · 1 year ago
Hey Juan Pablo - I looked into this when I was building it and unfortunately couldn't find a solution. Let me know if you ever come across one though!
  • grover · 9 months ago
There's a preference to set what page is displayed when you open a new tab. Just set it to Home Page. Safari > Preferences > General.

  • lepas · 1 year ago
this is clever! I always need more room on my post-its, though. : P
  • Nilas · 1 year ago
Very neat little feature. I find it very useful, thanks!

But what if i'f like more than 3.points or more text?
  • Jack Cheng · 1 year ago
I actually started out with 5 lines, but after trying out for a while realized it wasn't totally necessary. The idea is to just have a quick note up there - you don't want something you'll spend too much time reading. It also helps you condense your reminders into the simple, memorable blurbs.

I'm generally not a fan of writing essays on sticky notes :)
  • Weily · 1 year ago
Yes! This is great; I've long wanted a digital post-it application the improves on the "Stickies" app for Macs. I can't wait to use this in conjunction with NowDoThis.com, haha. I think it'd be great to expand the idea by making software that makes the post-it pop up 5 to 10 minutes after turning on the computer, too. Kind of like an alarm application with the similar goals in mind! What do you think?
  • Jack Cheng · 1 year ago
Thanks for the link to NowDoThis! First time I've seen that site. In regards to the the pop-up app, don't you accomplish the same thing if you just have the Stickies app load when OSX starts?
  • Weily · 1 year ago
You're welcome! NowDoThis is super-handy, I love it!

That's true about the Stickies app, but I mostly stopped using Stickies because they gave me too many options without making it easier (or prettier) to use! Now I'm wondering if Stickies would be more effective loading with the OS, or with a delayed load-time, because I'm sure it'd be nice to have a little time plodding around on one's PC with the usual e-mail/RSS/etc. scroll-through before hunkering down to work. Maybe that's just me, though... and maybe it could be an idea for two beta versions by someone with more programming finesse than I!
  • chyann · 4 months ago
Tell me how to use Nowdothis.com? I am always wandering on the net when I have important things to do. Like working on my project in project management, or working on my research paper for composition class, or working on my website, or writing the Great American novel, or at least an ebook.
  • Nilas · 1 year ago
Yeah okay, I see. I would love a feature where I could add another note and even more cool let them be free flowing. Maybe that is a idea for my self :)
  • Claire · 1 year ago

    i use it right now

Hey guys - check out Brian McAllister's comment below - he built a multi-sticky version at http://www.frequency-decoder.com/demo/little-ye...
  • Daniel Schildt · 1 year ago
Sounds nice, tell us more when you get something done with that. :)

  • cheeming · 1 year ago
I like the idea! How about adding offline support with google gears? :)
  • Daniel Schildt · 1 year ago
Google Gears might be little bit overkill with this one since offline version can be done by just downloading the whole page (including one file image file called sticky.gif to same directory) and using StickyScreen from local disk.

Hi, no offense but these notes should be sizeable to really be useful. I do like the concept very much though.. and a Coke logo on the bottom corner to pay for it.. [well, if it ain't paid for it certainly isn't going to be long-term viable..]
  • Rick · 12 months ago
You ought to make a lot of money off this idea with an ad or two at the bottom.

Is there any way I could add a feature like this to my website ... Nooga.com?

    Thanks, Rick

    Sure thing Rick.

i like your this cool idea and should i creat a site like this?
  • Marc · 12 months ago
It is a nice idea. I spend too much time on too many computers to utilize it, but I'll keep an eye on it.
  • ppmartin · 11 months ago
This is a very nice and elegant post it application, although I prefer the StickyNote version which is included in iGoogle, as my notes (are saved in the "cloud" and) appear regardless from which PC I access the web.
  • DT · 11 months ago
    Hey Jack,

I see this application as more a phrase of inspiration or just a few pointers to get you through the day. I don't think as some commenters have put it is meant as a powerful to-do list. I have my A4 sheet of paper or Moleskin for it.

What could be cool if you could sketch on it? I've seen a few post-stick pads here in my studio are little inspirational sketches.

    Great Stuff!

  • Jack Cheng · 11 months ago
If you're into lists, check out Tanner's site, http://www.tosimplydo.com/

Otherwise, you can save the file to your computer and change the pixel dimensions in the html to the size you want.

  • Carmen Sisson · 11 months ago
I love this. Thank you. I've been writing a letter to myself every morning -- not a to do list in terms of productivity, but a goal list towards personal growth. Reminders to think positive today, to do something fun today, to be confident today, to surf the internet less today, etc. This is a great idea. From my brief perusal of your site, I can already see I'll have one more website to resist during those dawdle times when I'd rather read about creating than actually do it.
  • Annie · 11 months ago
thanks so much for this. i've set it as my home page with a reminder to work on a project. i feel more compelled to do it every time i see it. something about writing it down (or in this case, typing) that makes you more likely to do things.

  • Patrick Algrim · 11 months ago
I think this was a really cool idea. Something so simple and easy to execute, I love those types of projects. Well done, I think overall you probably had fun doing it. Don't know if this question was answered above. But did you do the javascript yourself or find a resource and begin working from it?

    Great job!

doesn't apple have the 'stickies' app already built-in their OS since classic??
just asking as it sounds very similar.

    love your insights.

    cheers,
    -kb
  • Jack Cheng · 9 months ago
Yep, they do, but the advantage of this is that it stays hidden until you open a new browser window. For me, I struggled using the stickies app because it was too easy to ignore.
  • krakit · 9 months ago
Woot! This is Cooooool ! :D
  • krakit · 9 months ago
I'm back. There's not enough room on
the note for me to type all the stuff I want
    to type on it.

Can you make it so I can adjust the size
to large (full screen), medium (50%),
or small (the way it is now)?
  • krakit · 9 months ago
I just went through some of the previous
comments to see if someone has already
addressed my question and it appears
to have been answered, but the answer
requires knowing html, css, or knowing
how to affect a directory (or something
like that). It's not so simple behind the
    scenes for us computer noobs.
  • krakit · 9 months ago
Ok I just looked around some more and found
the comment with the webpage that lets you
    type out to do lists.

Thank you very much for posting about that site, Jack Cheng :D

And Thank You, Tanner Christensen, for making that site :D

This is fantastic. I'm trying to create a solution that relies off XML data for a simple noteboard for our intranet, just wondering how easy it would be to adapt this script to suit? I've looked everywhere and cannot find a good example.

    Could you help?
  • Jack Cheng · 8 months ago
I'm not sure, as stickyscreen just relies on simple javascript and cookies.

I found this site because I wanted to write myself a note so I wouldn't forget to call someone when I got back from running errands. My desk is a mess, and I thought "someone out there must have a site that uses a browser window as a notepad, or sticky or something. let's google that."

And I found this! It's exactly what I wanted!!!!! Just a note in the middle of the screen - no clutter around it. It will be the first thing I see on my computer (where I will always end up when I get home) so there's no way I'll forget.

    Perfect!!!
    THANKS!!!! :D
  • Dave Miller · 4 months ago
    Pretty cool idea, thanks.

One minor bug: When converting the text to the window title in Firefox, new lines are removed but not replaced by spaces (or any other separator), so the words run together. In IE8, they are replaced by two spaces in the titlebar, but square symbols in the tab title.
